Bullfrog Spas Water Care Guide
Here's how to keep the water in your Bullfrog Spa crystal clear.
At Startup
- Fill spa and purge air from pumps.
- Wait for water to reach 80°F.
- Add one Jump Start packet (opens in new tab).
- Install mineral & SmartChlor cartridges (opens in new tab).
- Slide in filter (opens in new tab), put JetPak back in place.
- Set filter cycles and test water.
Every Week
- Test water with test strips (opens in new tab). Adjust pH and alkalinity as needed.
- Consider adding Maintain (opens in new tab) if your spa water is cloudy.
Every Month
- Add one Maintain packet (opens in new tab)to spa water.
- Replace SILVER SmartChlor cartridge (opens in new tab).
- Replace your spa filter (opens in new tab).
Every 4 Months
- Purge biofilm with a pipe flush (opens in new tab) product.
- Drain your spa completely.
- Clean the shell and jets before refilling.
- Replace BLUE mineral cartridge (opens in new tab).

How to Set Up Your Bullfrog Spa for the First Time
Follow these steps in order. Skipping ahead can affect water quality and cartridge performance.
Wait for spa water to reach at least 80°F before adding any chemicals.
Add one Jump Start packet to the spa water.
Locate the cartridge holder behind the JetPak to the right of the spa's controls. Remove the holder by lifting forward and up.
Fully open the dial to #6 on the BLUE mineral cartridge and click it into place.
Set the dial on the SILVER SmartChlor cartridge based on your spa model, then click it into place.

Slide the spa filter into place.
Put the cartridge holder and JetPak back into place.
Set filter cycles to at least 8 hours daily. If your spa is equipped with circulation pumps, set filter cycles to 12–18 hours daily.
Test water with test strips. Adjust pH and alkalinity as needed.
